(2 Customer Reviews) Editorial Review: The pharaohs of Egypt have captured the imagination of readers throughout the ages. Their existence and power have been given a mythical status. In this book, Nic Fields reveals the truth behind these myths, and explores the lives of the ordinary soldiers who were the might of Middle Kingdom Egypt. Using rare artifacts, he pieces together the day-to-day existence of the pharaoh's army, from archers and hand-to-hand fighters, through to the "sole-companions" of the pharaoh.
Quoting from ancient sources Dr Fields depicts the battles on land and at sea in dramatic detail, whilst all the time providing a rare insight into the minutiae of the soldier's life: from the food he ate through to the gods he worshipped. Ancient Egypt: Kingdom of the Pharaohs Price: Visit top link for price Editorial Review: Although they were created thousands of years ago, the great monuments of Ancient Egypt continue to absorb and astonish us today. These imposing constructions the Sphinx, the Pyramids, the tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and the monumental temples of Luxor and Karnak demonstrate the complexity and strength of that civilization, while the fabulous treasures from Tutanhkamuns tomb are testament to its intense cultural richness. United as one country in 3100 BC, Egypt developed into an unequaled economic and cultural power under the pharaohs, one that endured for over 3000 years.
The ancient land bordering the Nile is still revealing its secrets, and our understanding of this extraordinary civilization is still deepening and changing. Lavishly illustrated throughout, Ancient Egypt: Kingdom of the Pharaohs gives an up-to-date account of the theories that have been used to describe this sophisticated culture, looking in detail at all the most important people, sites, and artifacts, and explaining practices, customs, and beliefs. The Hebrew Pharaohs of Egypt: The Secret Lineage of the Patriarch Joseph Condition: New Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours Price: $11.96 (It might be cheaper, visit top link)
(13 Customer Reviews)
Feature: ISBN13: 9781591430223 Editorial Review: A reinterpretation of Egyptian and biblical history that shows the Patriarch Joseph and Yuya, a vizier of the eighteenth dynasty king Tuthmosis IV, to be the same person • Uses detailed evidence from Egyptian, biblical, and Koranic sources to place Exodus in the time of Ramses I • Sheds new light on the mysterious and sudden rise of monotheism under Yuya's daughter, Queen Tiye, and her son Akhnaten • New Edition of Stranger in the Valley of the Kings When Joseph revealed his identity to his kinsmen who had sold him into slavery, he told them that God had made him "a father to Pharaoh." Throughout the long history of ancient Egypt, only one man is known to have been given the title "a father to Pharaoh"-Yuya, a vizier of the eighteenth dynasty king Tuthmosis IV. Yuya has long intrigued Egyptologists because he was buried in the Valley of Kings even though he was not a member of the Royal House. His extraordinarily well-preserved mummy has a strong Semitic appearance, which suggests he was not of Egyptian blood, and many aspects of his burial have been shown to be contrary to Egyptian custom. As The Hebrew Pharohs of Egypt shows, the idea that Joseph and Yuya may be one and the same person sheds a whole new light on the sudden rise of monotheism in Egypt, spearheaded by Queen Tiye and her son Akhnaten. It would clearly explain the deliberate obliteration of references to the "heretic" king and his successors by the last eighteenth dynasty pharaoh, Horemheb, whom the author believes was the oppressor king in the Book of Exodus. The author also draws on a wealth of detailed evidence from Egyptian, biblical, and Koranic sources to place the time of the departure of the Hebrews from Egypt during the short reign of Ramses I, the first king of the nineteenth dynasty. Even at that young age he was innovative in improving the methods of copying tomb decoration. In 1892 he worked under the tutelage of William Matthew Flinders Petrie for one season at Amarna, the capital founded by the pharaoh Akhenaten. From 1894 to 1899 he then worked with Edouard Naville at Deir el Bahri where he recorded the wall reliefs in the temple of Hatshepsut. In 1899, Carter was appointed the first chief inspector of the Egyptian Antiquities Service (EAS). He supervised a number of excavations at Thebes before he was transferred in 1904 to the Inspectorate of Lower Egypt. Carter resigned from the Antiquities Service in 1905 as a result of a dispute between Egyptian site guards and a group of French tourists. Lowest New Price:
